International Association of Paper Historians
The IPH integrates professionals of different branches and all friends of paper within the field of paper history. It coordinates all interests and activities in paper history as an international specialist association co-operating with international, regional and local organisations not only of paper historians but also of keepers of archives and libraries, conservators, art historians, specialists in books, printing and technology, associations of the paper industry, the publishing trade etc., including handicraft and artistic activities in connection with paper.

British Book Trade Index

About mid of 1998 this website started as a one-page-only list of links and developed continuously into a gateway to handmade paper on the internet. All links are accompanied by short comments in same language as the website referred to.

A Short History of Paper Boats
Over a hundred years ago a prosperous industry emerged in Troy, New York in the manufacture of rowing boats and canoes from paper. These ranged from simple single-person rowing shells to a 45 foot "pleasure barge" that could seat seventeen in addition to its six oarsmen.

Sapphire Project
The SAPPHIRE project has created a valuable sound archive and database of material on social, economic and cultural aspects of the twentieth century Scottish print and publishing industry from people who are or have been involved within that industry during their working lives. Part of this is a new initiative looking into the oral and social history of papermaking on the Water of Leith.

Museums

Heron Corn Mill
In 1988, to commemorate 500 years of paper making in England, the barn on the site was refurbished to house the Museum of Paper Making, adding another dimension to the site. Paper making is an important local industry, established over 250 years ago on the opposite bank of the river.

Watermarks

The Thomas L. Gravell Watermark Archive
A collection of over 7,000 watermarks on handmade paper in both the United States and Europe from the 15^th to the 19^th centuries. You will need technical knowledge in order to use this site.

Watermarks collected by Gabriel Garcia. Mostly fairly recent examples but good images and worth a browse for watermark images and references as he is constantly updating.
